Annual Day of Caring - Call for Applications
Northumberland United Way is pleased to announce that CpK Interior Products and Cameco Corporation will again be working alongside representatives from SABIC, Spectrum Brands Inc., Lakefront Utilities, Arclin Surfaces, YMCA Northumberland, Stalwood Homes and Home Building Centre for the 17th Annual Day of Caring which will take place on Friday, June 6th. The Lions Club of Cobourg has been a long-time supporter of this very special day. The Lions donate the use of their hall and also provide a hot breakfast for all the volunteers to enjoy prior to beginning their day. Volunteers from participating companies will work from 8am to 2pm on the Day of Caring to complete a wide range of jobs, some of which are in and around workplaces and some of which are done at the homes of individuals, many of whom are elderly and infirm. Over the past sixteen years, these volunteers have done it all!
We are currently seeking suitable Day of Caring projects from local not-for-profits and charitable organizations. We understand that often, small organizations cannot afford the time, money or personnel to do some of these jobs themselves. Also, agencies that refer individual clients to have jobs done are in a position to recognize situations where due to health or monetary restrictions, there is a definite need for assistance in the form of donated supplies and volunteer labour to help make one’s living situation more comfortable and safe. These are the kinds of projects for which the Day of Caring is designed. Please keep in mind that we keep the safety of all our volunteers foremost in mind and that jobs that have the potential to be dangerous will not be approved.
Jobs range from painting, cleaning, gardening and yard work to building sandboxes and enhancing play areas. Each year, applications are reviewed by the team and jobs are assessed. From these assessments, materials are ordered and manpower determined to complete the job in a 5-6 hour work period.
If you are interested in volunteering your time and talents to one of our Day of Caring projects, please contact us. We would love to have you and we know that you would enjoy helping your community on this great day. As well, we always welcome new community partners to our Day of Caring team. If you would like your business to become part of this “give-back” day, please feel free to contact us to discuss. Many hands make light work!
If you are a not-for-profit charitable organization in the Cobourg/Port Hope area and are interested in applying for work to be completed for your organization or for some of your clients, please download and submit an applications. These projects will be reviewed by the selection committee and applicants will be contacted.
Deadline for application is Friday March 7th 2014.
