Dianne Huffman - A 23 year commitment to United Way!

It all began in 1988 when the Plant Manager at CpK Interior Products (formerly Collins & Aikman, Textron, and Davidson) asked me to begin our first in-house industry campaign. That first year, I was unsure of the outcome; however when I witnessed the generosity of the employees, the commitment of our company, and where the dollars were going to help those less fortunate in our community, I knew I wanted to be involved in making a difference.
Over the years, with the involvement of many employees, our annual in-house campaign is a wonderful success story; from volunteers who canvass for donations to those who assist in arranging the numerous activities. Over the years we have held bingos, barbeques, yard sales, jail & bail, chili contests, book sales, silent auctions and 50/50 draws. The dollars raised in our plant are a testament to our employees’ generosity and commitment to giving back to the community.
In 1989, and until 1994, I was a member of the Board of Directors for Northumberland United Way and Industry Chairperson for Port Hope. This gave me opportunities to not only hear many success stories but also to see how the dollars were making a difference. It was great to be part of bringing other local industries on board with their own internal United Way Campaigns.
In 1995, I was proud to be asked to be the co-chair for the overall annual campaign. This was one of the most exciting, challenging, fun times I have experienced, and certainly opened my eyes to the many needs of children and youth, individuals, families and seniors all across Northumberland.
In 1999, our company partnered with the United Way for the Annual Day of Caring. This is the opportunity for employees to go into the community to help with small jobs. Since its inception, the day has grown to include six other companies with over 100 volunteers.
Change starts here when you give, volunteer and act!
